Doctor Biden

On the Today show, this morning, when asked about the risk getting infected by the Swine Flu virus, Vice President Joe Biden suggested that "people should not fly on commercial airliners or ride in subway cars or they could get sick", essentially telling millions of Americans to stop going about their daily business... Yes, it was just Biden being Biden, but he must realize that his words have a great effect on Americans now and that creating a panic does not help...

Reported in today's Los Angeles Times: Jewish professor William I. Robinson, of the University of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB), stirs furor, having sent an email, to the 80 students in his Sociology of Globalization class, that compared graphic images of Jews in the Holocaust to pictures of Palestinians during Israel's recent Gaza offensive. The email was titled "Parallel Images of Nazis and Israelis" and included more than two dozen photographs of Jewish victims of the Nazis, including some photos of dead children, next to images, from Gaza, that Robinson claims are identical. In the email, Robinson writes "Gaza is Israel's Warsaw - a vast concentration camp that confined and blockaded Palestinians" and "we are witnessing a slow-motion process of genocide" when he refers to Israel's attempts to defend its citizens from years of rocket shootings by the Hamas. 

Two Jewish students filed a complaint with the University but Robinson is getting the support of 100 California (of course...) professors who claim that the allegations were raised against Robinson to "silence criticism of Israeli policies and practices". Among them is UCSB's history professor, Harold Marcuse (also Jewish), that teaches about the holocaust, who said that Robinson's accusations are "well within the bounds of appropriateness on campus" and "it's something I could have used in my course".

I think that we should look at ourselves, as a people, before we accuse others of anti-semitism. Something must be very wrong if Jews make such remarks and accusations...

Obama the magician

Our President must be a magician to have accomplished so much during his first 100 days in the White House. Among his notable achievements he:

• Convinced Congress to approve a $787 billion gift to his extreme liberal special interest base under the disguise of the Stimulus Plan and did it so fast that no member of Congress was able to read the bill prior to voting on it.
  
• After campaigning to end earmarks, he signed an appropriation bill loaded with 8,000 earmarks – with no political cost to him.
  
• Eliminated debate in the Democratic party – House Democrats and Senate Democrats voted along party lines 94% and 91% of the time, respectively.
  
• Transformed the Federal Reserve and the FDIC into giant engines of unsupervised spending. Together, during these 100 days, they have spent an amount equal to the 2007 federal budget - $2.4 trillion, without having to disclose where the money went.
  
• Had the EPA rule that greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health which opens the door to cap-and-trade legislation at a cost, to tax payers, of $1-$2 trillion!
  
• Pronounced America “arrogant, dismissive and derisive” in an attempt to win the hearts of anti-Americans around the world.
  
• Caved in to the anti-American extreme left by leaving the door open to prosecution of Bush Administration officials over interrogation of terrorists who plotted to kill Americans.

However, all these “achievements" pale when compared to his planned $3.5 trillion 2010 budget that forecasts a $9 trillion increase in our national debt over the next 10 years.

Can you imagine the next 1360 days?…

Defector

Yesterday, Republican Senator Arlen Specter announced that he was switching sides and will run, in 2010, as a democrat. In a letter he emailed to supporters he writes: “Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats.” and "I have traveled the State, talked to Republican leaders and office-holders and my supporters and I have carefully examined public opinion. It has become clear to me that my stimulus vote caused a schism which makes our differences irreconcilable. On this state of the record, I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate." Who was the senior administration official that said “Ideology is so yesterday”? After 29 years as a Republican Senator, Specter is pursuing new opportunities wherever they may lead him – in spite of the fact that this will most likely grant the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate (assuming Al Franken ends up winning)… Of course, as a Democrat, he will most likely receive the chairmanship of some important committee… Specter is a seasoned politician and I doubt that he switched without a sweet deal from the Dems. In my book, there is only one word to describe this: Traitor!

Air Farse One

Yesterday, the White House sent an Air Force One lookalike, followed by a fighter jet, flying low over the financial district of New York in order to shoot photos of the plane above New York City. Thousands of terrified New Yorkers evacuated their buildings, thinking that this was another terror attack. Neither City Hall, nor the NYPD were notified of this important operation. I guess the photo was very important…

U.S. plans to accept several Chinese Muslims from Guantanamo

According to the Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Tribune, the Obama administration is preparing to admit seven Chinese Muslims, currently imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay into the US and to settle them in American communities – despite objections of the Department of Homeland Security. Why? Because no other country will accept them. I wonder why?...

Strange bedfellows

Our President Obama made a new friend while in Trinidad for the Summit of the Americas - Hugo Chaves. They were all smiles when they shook hands... When the president was criticized about this by one of the reporters, he said: "It's unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation with Mr. Chavez that we are endangering the strategic interest of the United States"
Later, in front of photographers, Chavez embarrassed Obama when he gave a copy of "The Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent," an anti-American and anti-European book by Eduardo Galeano, which makes accusations of economic and political interference in the region by the US and Europe.

Obama - the great communicator

There is no question that President Obama is a great communicator. According to the Gallup Polls daily job approval poll, most Americans continue to believe in his promises (the check is in the mail) and, consequently, his job approval ratings declined only from 68% in January to 65% this week. However, when it comes to Obama’s policies, including the $3.6 billion deficit budget, people are waking from their euphoric dreams to the sound of the bells of socialism, as shown by the disapproval ratings for the same period that increased from 12% to 29%...

To understand the next four years in Washington D.C., you have to understand the world according to Chicago:

There are only three rules which anybody can understand.  You don't even need an attorney to understand them and if you need an attorney, well, you know too much...so look out for Rule #3!

• Rule #1: No mater what you see, hear or do, you don't know anybody and you know nothing!

• Rule #3: If you know what everybody knows in Chicago, well, you still don't know anything!

In light of "budget constrains", the Obama administration has decided to cancel the position of White House Liaison to the Jewish community and to assign these responsibilities to three persons that already have full time jobs. The community is currently trying to persuade the administration to reverse this decision.
